By choosing to visit the Kashmir it says something about you, that you prefer solitude to crowds. The Kashmir must be one of the few places left in the Himalayas where you can walk for days, through the most beautiful sceneries, and see no other trekking parties. There are trails that are more commercially popular than others. The KTC will always look for the quieter, lesser explored routes and fishing spots. We prefer to camp over at discreet and remote camp sites for a few nights at a time, taking a day or two to explore the incredible surrounds before heading off to a new site. In this regard we believe our offering to be unique, other operators will limit the amount of time you are able to stay at any particular site.
Our mission is to provide an experience that takes out all of the stress and worry of from when you arrive at the Srinagar Airport, to when you leave.
We believe our offering is unique and superior for the following three reasons:
-
Virgin Trails – We trek off the beaten track, taking you along trails that are used onlh by gypsy shepherds, you see areas of the Kashmir that most will never!
-
World Class Camping Equipment – Including day beds, bathroom tents with hot water options, toilet tent, lounge tent, kitchen tent. Spacious sleeping tents. Camping Chairs. Self-Inflating mattresses
-
The Food! − The Food is simply amazing, we bring along a dedicated chef who cooks three meals a day, along with delicious tea and afternoon snacks. Only the freshest meats, vegetables, spices and mountain fresh water is used!
The following is an itinerary for a ten night trekking adventure with the KTC:
Day 1: Arrive in Srinagar. Met by KTC staff at the airport in Srinagar, drive direct from Srinagar to Naranag , Aslam’s home village. Safe road, around 3 hour journey. Relaxed evening, curry feast cooked by Aslam and Haseena – then a big crash after the long journey. (assuming you have flown continually from Denmark to the Kashmir)
Day 2. Relax at Aslam’s guesthouse situated on the banks of the Sindh River. Alt is 2,000m so will take it easy, walk around the village, explore ancient Hindu ruins, possible BBQ at the river-side (weather and time permitting). Fishing/swimming is optional (fishing should always be an option!). Arrivals party on Aslam’s terrace that evening, getting excited for the days ahead.
Day 3. After breakfast, time to put on your hiking boots and start an epic trek through an alpine forest up the side of the mountain. This is a tough day but you want a challenge now don't you? It's tough but the beauty is extreme. We walk through the forest and emerge from the tree line at around 3,000 meters. Lunch at a tea house perched on the side of the mountain. After lunch we make our way laterally around the mountainside to the 'Blue House'. This marks our first campsite. It is a long day, around 6 hours of trekking. Tents are set up by the staff and we can unwind and relax on a day bed soaking up magnificent views of the mountains or try your hand at a game of Finska! 13kms of trekking done, you are now officially in the Kashmir Himalayas.
Day 4. Early morning meditation and/or yoga is optional. We pack up camp and start our trek to the next campsite, High Camp. Beautiful hike to around 3,300 meters. Total solitude, won't see anyone but the odd gypsy shepherd and his flock. Table top camping with extreme views, fresh water lake close by. Enjoy watching clouds crawl over the green table top campsite. Finska will be a hit. 7kms trek.
Day 5. Hearty breakfast of omelettes, toast and oats. After that it's time to go on a day walk to any of the incredible sights at hand, including a high lying lake, good for a swim and a wash. Return back to camp site for lunch, afternoon dozing and relaxing, if you are up for it some mountainside bootcamp. Afternoon drinks and Finska competition. By now you will be well and truly into the mountain vibe, no words can describe the sense of transcendence.
It may be possible to buy some fresh lamb from one of the shepherds for a mountain BBQ at the high camp.
Day 6. Pack up camp and embark on the most thrilling mountain trek of the tour. We make our way to the base of the unconquered Mount Haremukh, the highest in the region. Incredible views of the mythical giant as well as stunning views of the two Gangabal Lakes. We reach heights of 3,800 meters plus, will be a rush of note. We descend to around 3,500 meters to the bigger of the two lakes and set up camp meters away from the water’s edge. The beauty of the Haremukh rising away from the lake is breath taking, the lake is like a giant mirror and it's something special to see the colourful reflections of the mountain and the sky on the lake's silver surface. That evening we can try our luck at catching trout. 14kms trek.
Day 7. Day at the lakeside. Some more yoga, meditation and of course lots of fishing. We should catch enough trout for the ultimate lunch, crispy trout and chips, the ultimate.... some epic day walks available, or a run for the fit, 7kms around the lake, including a section of trail across the flow of a glacier, icy cold water streaming into the lake.
Day 8. We pack up camp and descend along the river valley that flows from the great lakes, beautiful walk ending in the ‘Gypsy Forest’ camp site, will be good to be back below the tree line. Afternoon spent chilling under the shade of very old fir and pine trees, reading books and sipping tea. Big bonfire and rum party that night! 8km trek
Day 9. Head back to the guesthouse, spend time at the riverside swimming and sunbathing. Overnight at guesthouse in Naranag Village. Last night in the mountains, more Rum and reminiscing the trek experience. 9km trek
Day 10. Head back to Srinagar. Luxury Accommodation on a lake house boat. Spend the afternoon on a Shikara (wooden boat) having some drinks and enjoying the culture of Kashmir, if you want to shop for Shawls, carpets and other exclusively Kashmir items, this will be your chance. Kashmir Wazwan (epic feast) for dinner.
Day 11. Breakfast on the house boat, then a boat ride back to the main land, a taxi will transport you to the Airport. Fly out to Delhi to connect to flight home.
